首先，根據維基百科： https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automatic_firearm 「Although all "semi-automatic", "burst fire", and "fully automatic" firearms are "automatic" in the technical sense that the firearm automatically cycles between rounds with each trigger pull, the terms "automatic weapon" and "automatic firearm" are conventionally reserved by firearm enthusiasts to describe fully automatic firearms. Use of the terms "fully automatic" or "full auto" can avoid confusion. Firearms are further defined by the type of firearm action used.」簡略解釋如下：「半自動(semi-automatic)、點放(burst fire)跟全自動(fully automatic)都是自動自動指的是每次扣板機會自動完成cycle，而cycle的定義如下： 1. Fire (開火) 2. Eject (退殼) 3. Load (進彈) 4. Cock (閉鎖) 自動武器/火器通常保留來指全自動(fully automatic)火器用「fully automatic」或「full auto」可以避免誤會」我的結論如下：「就跟現在rifle通常不是用來指有來福線的槍，而是專指步槍一樣自動武器最開始是用來指相對於手動武器，但現在大部分用來指全自動武器」所以接下來的翻譯會依照以下定義：半自動：semi-automatic 點放：burst fire 全自動：automatic(如果前後文允許解釋成全自動)或fully automatic notepad67引用的是FM 3-22.9，2003年4月出版，https://goo.gl/W5r6oX cwchang2100可能是用FM 3-22.9C1，2011年2月出版，https://goo.gl/ibjNen 既然FM 3-22.9C1比較新就以這版為準，但不影響以下結論 FM 3-22.9C1的AUTOMATIC OR BURST FIRE這章由7-12頁開始，到7-16頁結束我們可以看到幾乎Automatic後面都跟著burst，沒有跟著的我認為只有以下幾個差異 7-12頁「NOTE: The M16A1/A3 rifle and M4A1 carbine have fully automatic settings. The M16A2/A4 rifle and M4 carbine use a three-round burst capability.」明確指出M16A1/A3和M4A1有全自動(fully automatic) 而16A2/A4和M4是3發點放「7-32. Automatic or burst fire is inherently less accurate than semiautomatic fire. The first fully automatic shot fired may be on target, but recoil and a high cyclic rate of fire often combine to place subsequent rounds far from the desired point of impact. Even controlled (three-round burst) automatic or burst fire may place only one round on the target. Because of these inaccuracies, it is difficult to evaluate the effectiveness of automatic or burst fire, and even more difficult to establish absolute guidelines for its use. 」這邊指出全自動跟點放天生就是比半自動不準，全自動第1發可能打中目標但後座力跟高射擊循環率會使後續的子彈遠離想擊中的點。就算是控制的全自動(三發點放)或點放也可能只擊中目標1顆子彈因為這些不精確性，要評估全自動或是點放的有效性是困難的要建立使用的絕對的準則更困難結論：沒辦法區分全自動跟點放的優劣，但是這邊首次提到控制的全自動 (即3發點放) 7-14頁「Trigger Squeeze 7-43. Training and repeated dry-fire practice aid the Soldier in applying proper trigger squeeze during automatic firing. LFXs enable him to improve this skill.」結論：要訓練士兵在全自動開火時要適當的扣動板機「M16A1 Rifles 7-45. Until the weapon fires, trigger squeeze is applied in the normal manner. Because three-round bursts are the most effective rate of fire, pressure on the trigger should be released as quickly as possible. To use the burst fire mode, keep the index finger on the trigger, but quickly release pressure to prevent an excessive number of rounds from being fired in one burst.
