: 1.Of all the great innovations, the railroad may : well be the one "to" which historians have allowed : the most dramatic and far-reaching influence. Of the greatest modern innovation, the railroad may well be the one which historians have allowed to the most dramtic and far-reaching influence. : 2.The more historians have learned about the changes : caused by the railroad, the less maniac, the more : reasonable or at least understanable, "that initial : mania has come to seem." : 這個句型是the more...the more的那種句型嗎? 是 the more...the more or the less... The more historians have learned about the changes caused by the railroad所講到的部分, 原本該是插在 the railroad的後面, 但為了使 the more...the more...or the less 的句型完整和比較好理解的情況下被 搬到後面去! : 3. It was the railroad that made it feasible to ship : goods long distance "over land". 搞不太懂 我有兩個想法: 1. over land 在這裡是跨越陸地或跨州(美國), 被當成補語形容前面的long distance 原句該是...long distance (that or which is) over land. that or which is 被 省略了, 就算沒有 that or which is 被省略, 還是不影響讀者判讀! 2. It was the railroad that made it feasible to ship long distance over land goods.
