可是原句的標點似乎有些錯誤
應該是
More _____ than her predecessor, Superintendent Reynolds would, many predicted,
have a far less _____ term of office.
沒有複雜的文法
只是有一個插入句 , many predicted,
由於用了would (本來就是假設語氣)
即使拿掉也很容易懂
More _____ than her predecessor, Superintendent Reynolds would
have a far less _____ term of office.
很顯然兩個空格相反
(A) phlegmatic 冷淡的 ….apathetic (a=不 ;patho=suffer , 所以這個字就是 麻木的)
(B) conciliatory (來自councilto bring together, make friendly)
….confrontational (con front 一起面對面 = 對立)
(C) empathetic 移情 ….compassionate (同情)
(D) vigilant 警戒的,機警的 ….reputable 可敬的
(E) penurious 貧窮… .frugal 節儉
只有一組(B)是對立的
