"if..., but"應該不能連用吧？
我的理解是要寫成if A, B but C. 不然"but"這個對等連接詞前面是"if"的從屬子句，
似乎怪怪的。
我覺得可以寫成這樣：
Yes, if you're telling the purpose, I agree with you, but there is also
the pattern...
或是
Yes, if you're telling the purpose, I agree with you. But there is also
the pattern...

抱歉，現醜了...。
不過我在辭典裡確實沒看見if子句單獨出現，而後面卻沒有主要子句的用法。
若K大您方便的話，願聞其詳。

不然就是把前面的"Yes"當成主要子句，看成是一種省略的寫法，這樣或許勉強可解釋。
