大家好,有幾個問題想請教..:
1. 第一人稱是個每天忙個不停的職業婦女,希望每天都可以跟丈夫好好共度夜晚,
看電影、做愛、或聊天,可是她總是一到晚上十點就累得動不了了,
雖然每天都向老公保證晚上一定會跟他一起晚點上床睡覺,
但 when the next night came
I would again be an adulterer -- my lover was sleep.
請問最後一句是甚麼意思呢?
內容不是指她自己累得先睡著了嗎?又為什麼說自己變成姦夫呢?
(非常難以理解~)
2. "我是由猶太教父母撫養長大的,但他們對猶太傳統了解得如此不足,
以至於有時我會覺得自己像個 convert。
Convert意思是 "改變宗教或信仰的人",
請問這裡的意思是指 "改信猶太教" 嗎?(因為是改信,所以對這個宗教很不熟悉?)
3. 作者想要針對某個問題找出解決辦法,
但若是從心理學和宗教兩方面來看,都分別有其不足之處,
後來作者轉而求助於猶太教義,於是--
in the time-tested lessons of Judaism, I discovered insights and practical
tools that spoke directly to both psychological and spiritual problems.
請問這裡的 speak directly to 是甚麼意思呢?查很久都查不出來..
4. "在很有錢的家庭裡,家長想要用各種物質來填補孩子的生活及心靈,
但是這種辦法並無法為心靈帶來平靜,
and all the excess leads to more anxiety --
parents fear that their children will not be able
to sustain this rarefied lifestyle
and will fall off the mountain the parents have built for them."
請問這裡的 sustain this rarefied lifestyle 怎麼理解呢?
是 "靠自己的能力過這種金字塔頂端的生活方式" 之類的嗎?
(少數有錢人過的生活方式。)
5. 在某間學校有個學生過世了,學校安排大人分駐在校園裡,以便隨時安撫學生心情,
然而從宗教的觀點來看,由於缺乏 a sense of duty to others,
所以家長和老師只想著要撫平好其他學生的心情,
卻對喪家沒有任何表示(譬如做晚餐送過去),
放學時沒有同學送學生的弟弟回家,
除此之外,也沒有 organized lessons on social obligation.
請問這裡的 organized lessons on social obligation,
是指大人應該以身作則、示範人人該盡什麼樣的社會義務嗎?
是指老師應該有系統的設計課程,讓孩子了解社會義務的概念嗎?
還是指別的什麼呢?
6. 前文提到父母對孩子要求過多,包括要成績好、懂事、有所成就等等,
"What better way for children to rebel against their parent's unrealistic
expectations, take back some control,
and resist being worshiped like an idol than to get sick or fail to excel?"
請問這句的文法或邏輯是不是有點不對?(我真的看很久看不懂。)
在...than...這樣的句子裡,前面不是應該要有 more...嗎?譬如
It is more important to you 【to resist being controlled】 than
【to be a caring person to yourself and to her】.
* 剛剛想到是否應該是和句頭的 "better way" 連在一起,
但就算是連在一起看,我還是看不懂... 囧
這幾個問題讓我十分困擾...
