Roy Oswalt, though, has no interest in reinventing himself as a reliever. "I'm a starter," said Oswalt, who agreed to terms with the Rangers on a $4 million deal on May 21 that could reach $5 million based on incentives. "I'm not really a bullpen guy." For now, Oswalt is a bullpen guy for the Rangers. He was moved into that role once the Rangers traded for Ryan Dempster, as the team opted to keep a surging Scott Feldman in the rotation. Oswalt, 34, had gone 3-2 with a 6.49 ERA in six starts since making his Texas debut on June 22. The Rangers were 4-2 in Oswalt's starts, although he gave up double-digit hits in three of them. He missed a start with lower-back tightness and then returned by giving up eight runs on 11 hits over 5 1/3 innings against the Angels on Monday, his last start. Does Oswalt believe the six starts were enough of a sample size to be judged? "Well, I mean we're 4-2 in the games I started. I guess I should've been 6-0," Oswalt said. "Two bad ones and won four of them so... I don't know. We'll see how it goes." Was he OK with the decision? "It wasn't my decision," he said. "I'm down there to throw when they need me, I guess.... I don't know how long it's going to last." Oswalt did well in his first relief appearance Thursday, throwing two scoreless innings. Manager Ron Washington called Oswalt's relief appearance "outstanding, and said it would be up to Oswalt if he becomes a valuable piece in the bullpen.
