解釋: 該詞應該是源自美國西部 ，當時在美國西南部盛行。它有兩層含義。一為死於工作
崗位(“die in harness”)、一為殉職，尤指在戰鬥中或者為高尚的事業而獻身。
都隱含有暴斃的意思。因為如果是病死或老死的情況下，一般是躺在床上等待死亡，不會
穿著鞋子；如果是在槍戰中死去，自然是穿著靴子的。直到17世紀早期，“boot”開始指
腿的防護後，可能才造成了這一說法（見於“The American Heritage Dictionary of
Idioms”by Christine Ammer (1997)）。在英式英語裡，通常把它說成“die in one's
boots”。例句︰︰He worked hard all his life and
died with his boots on when he had a heart attack and died in the factory.
（他一生都勤奮工作，最後因為心臟病死在工廠自己的工作崗位上。）︰
We cannot choose the particular way in which we are to die, but it seems more
interesting to die in our boots while doing our work than from disease in bed.
