Re: [閒聊] 我上了大學
Finally I finish reading this book approximately.
Approximately, for there are some sections which are merely examples
and are a little boring. However, there are also some chapters which,
I believe, are of your interests, because the topics and experiences
discussed concern all of us.
There is a point to be noted. Throughout the book the author at times
uses the term "philosophy" in a common-sensical sense, meaning nothing
but a method, an underlying thought and has nothing to do with the
practice of philosophy in present days. However, there are really some
chapters, namely "Freedom and Commitment" and "The Goal: The Fully
Functioning Person", which are of philosophical interests, show an attitude
suitable for philosophical discussions and mention the old metaphysical
problem of freedom vs. determinism, though the author's solution to it
is not creative and satisfactory in philosophers' eyes.
By the way, if you are busy, you can just read two chapters: "Difficulties
and Opportunities" and "The Philosophical and Value Ramifications". Other
chapters are mainly concerned with the practice of education, not with the
theoretical framework and thoughts which the author holds and intends to
make us believe by persuasive arguments and facts.
