後來想了想 maudlin:sentimental = patronizing:condescending 有褒貶的關係
MAUDLIN:
showing or expressing too much emotion especially in a foolish or annoying way
SENTIMENTAL:
having or expressing strong feelings of love, sadness, etc., in a way that
may seem foolish or excessive
MAUDLIN是絕大部份是指那些foolish跟annoying的表現方式
而SENTIMENTAL是可能會出現foolish 所以不一定是不好
obsequious:deferential是褒貶這就沒錯
patronizing:condescending的話也是褒貶
從一些論壇的資料裡對這兩個字給與這樣的說明
Condescending is talking down to. Patronizing is talking down to with an
insulting air of pity.
Condescending: Well, Terry, the reason you think that is because you don't
understand politics.
Patronizing: Oh, it's so quaint the way that you don't understand politics.
Here, little guy, let me explain...
不過這些東西對於他們native speaker都會搞混了...
我們就能記多少就記多少吧
