(that 關係子句）. not ... until 是「不到…(不…), 到…才(做…)」之意例如：He didn't come home until eleven o'clock. 他到十一點才回家。而 expect to 是「預期 <要做…>, 打算 <做…>」例如：I expect to be there this evening. 我打算今晚到那裡去。 = I will be there this evening. 所以原題中 is expected to make 是「will make」之意，時態為「未來式」而 until 部分用「is signed」（現在式被動語態）乃是因為「時間副詞子句中用現在式代替未來式」的文法規則所致。所以不用 will be signed. 如此解決掉前半段「在合併協議簽訂前，沒有人會出價買下 FIB」。而關係子句中， that 指「協議」 (agreement) ，此協議中訂有「罰則」 (provision for penalties)，此罰則是在「交易未來無法簽訂」 (the deal will not be concluded) 的時候會生效。至於「未來式」的 will not be 變成 were not to be 乃因為 [were+to do; 表示不可能實現的假設] 萬一… 例如：If I were to die [Were I to die] tomorrow, what would my children do? 萬一我明天死了, 我的孩子們將怎麼辦呢? 此句與「表與未來事實相反的假設語氣」 If S would V, S would V. 的時態用法一致，都是「過去未來式」。目前原題目中沒寫的是「罰則內容」，所以看起來好像少掉了一半（也就是假設語氣中的主要子句部分）。若要將另一半寫出來，那penalties 之後會有一個「做同位語的名詞子句」，像是 a provision for penalties that if the deal were not to be concluded, 罰則部分. 這樣。如此就把後半句「此協議中訂有萬一交易不成所要執行的罰則」也解決掉了。提供參考看看。 : 218.
