你這個問題問得很好
如你所述，在中文因不同情況有不同的說法：打洞、穿洞、刺洞、鑽洞
英文亦然；參考LONMAN ACTIVATOR 的HOLE這個詞條
1.make a hole in =在空間的底部鑽孔
ex. to make a hole in the bottom of a pot
2.pierce=用銳利的工具穿出細小的孔
ex. to pierce the lid of a can (類似你舉的:在蓋子上打孔)
ex. I had my ears pierced (打耳洞，很常見的用法)
3.prick=用一端銳利的工具(例如大頭針)在物體表面穿出小孔
ex. to prick the potatoes before cooking
ex. to prick my fingers with a needle
4.punch=用工具快速、強力地在紙上或材料上打洞
ex. to punch a ticket
ex. to punch a hole through steel plate
5.drill=用快速旋轉的工具鑽洞
ex. to drill a hole on the wall
6.dig =在地上鑽洞
ex. to dig a hole in the sand
注意有些情況只要用: 動詞+被穿洞的物體 (ex. prick potatoes, pierce the lid)
有些則要:動詞+a hole+被穿洞的位置(drill a hole, punch a hole)
