1.) The man has to spend all [of] his time [while he is] flat on his back.
1.1.) The man has to spend all of his time.
1.2.) He is flat on his back.
省略的詞應該讓句子的意思更清楚。
2.) The two men spoke of their wives, families, jobs, and even where
they'd last been on their vacation.
2.1.) The two men spoke of their wives.
2.2.) ... families.
2.3.) ... jobs.
2.4.) The two men even spoke of where they'd last been on their vacation.
2.41.) The two men even spoke of x.
2.42.) They'd last been to x on their vacation.
2.421.) They had last been to x.
2.4211.) They had last been to x.
2.42111.) They had been to x.
英語允許人放比較短的副詞短語在第一個動詞和第二個之間。
例如：
You can now see it. (now)
He had since forgotten it. (since)
She was not hardly working. (not hardly)
I do extremely often lose it (可懂，但我們更喜歡"I do lose it
extremely often.")
如果您放"last"在"vacation"的前面，改變"last"的意思與詞性。
