今天線上申請四所學校，又有兩所是用Taiwan, Province of China 分別是UMass-Amherst和NYU 我剛寫了信要求改正，等下禮拜一看會不會有正面回覆順便複製信件內容過來 (感謝前面提供網址的板友) 請台灣學生申請學校時遇到這種事不要摸摸鼻子、罵聲e04就吞下去上graduate school admission的網站找一下可聯絡的e-mail 複製貼上改一下校名和你的名字，寄出會吵的孩子有糖吃，成功就又多一所學校改正名稱為Taiwan Dear Sir/Madam, I am applying to the graduate school at SCHOOL NAME this year. In the online application system, I noticed that “Taiwan” is currently listed as “ Taiwan, Province of China.” I find it completely unacceptable, as do many Taiwanese students. I understand that the system most likely imported the list provided by the ISO. However, the official name of our country is either “Taiwan” or “Republic of China,” or at worst “Chinese Taipei,” as is adopted in the Olympics. “Taiwan, Province of China,” on the other hand, implies that Taiwan is part of the People’s Republic of China, which is inconsistent with any objective fact. The government of the United States has never claimed that Taiwan is a province of the PRC. In the website of the Department of State, “Taiwan” is listed as “Taiwan” (http://www.state.gov/r/pa/ei/bgn/35855.htm). Pragmatically speaking, adopting “Taiwan, Province of China” has in the past had the consequence of causing admission letters to be incorrectly delivered to China, rather than directly to Taiwan, and therefore compromised the affected students’ rights. I sincerely hope that SCHOOL NAME would take this issue seriously and correct the name to “Taiwan,” in accordance with the US government. Thank you very much.
