※ 引述《aclgpo ( )》之銘言: : : Here is a straightforward sentence: : : "The accountant NEED TO base his plan on realistic numbers." : : One may rewrite it as: : : "The accountant NEED realistic numbers TO base his plan on ." : : But to end a sentence with a preposition is sometimes considered substandard, : : so we follow what iwwe has suggested and put that "on" in front of "which." : 感謝c大 i大以及其他板友的指點~ 不過我還是有點不懂 : 1. 以c大的講解 是不是也就文法上 因為on放在前面 所以加個which當介系詞的受詞 : 而which就是realistic numbers? : 註:如果是這樣 這種文法是叫做? : 2. 還是說 which是引導形容詞子句 修飾realistic numbers? : 這樣的話to base是助動詞變化來的 : 如 which the accountant can base his plan on (再把on放在前面) : 註: 我以為這個助動詞變化成不定詞的用法只適用於名詞子句 : 如 I don't know what I should do. : ( I don't know what to do. ) : : → iwwe :on which to base his plan是老外比較常用的文法 02/07 06:36 : : → iwwe :same goes to "to which", "for which", "by which" 02/07 06:36 Dear aclgpo, Some questions can be expained in a fews words or lines of sentences, this question, I afraid, is not one of these. The question you raised is about "relative clauses" or "dependent clauses." Not a easy topic I would say, but it is important to understand it well. Here is a nice page from BBC World Service: http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/learningenglish/grammar/learnit/ learnitv286.shtml also http://www.edufind.com/english/grammar/REL3.CFM hope that helps ^^ -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 202.169.165.62

嗯嗯 我了解了 謝謝c大
02/08 14:12, 1F

02/08 16:14, , 2F
explained* :)
02/08 16:14, 2F

02/08 18:20, , 3F
在BBC那個網頁裡中間淺色底的最後一句話,第一個that
02/08 18:20, 3F

02/08 18:21, , 4F
是做什麼用呢?
02/08 18:21, 4F

02/08 23:39, , 5F
(Please)Sit down.(祈使句, subject you and is
02/08 23:39, 5F

02/08 23:40, , 6F
often omitted.
02/08 23:40, 6F

02/08 23:41, , 7F
(Please) Note that …. It is a that clause, also
02/08 23:41, 7F

02/08 23:42, , 8F
called "a content clause." ^^
02/08 23:42, 8F

02/09 08:44, , 9F
Note from three sentences beginning with NOTE in
02/09 08:44, 9F

02/09 08:45, , 10F
that area, only the last one got a comma before
02/09 08:45, 10F

02/09 08:46, , 11F
THAT. This is the actual point that bewilders me.
02/09 08:46, 11F

02/09 08:48, , 12F
Just regarding it as the THAT CLAUSE after NOTE
02/09 08:48, 12F

02/09 08:49, , 13F
is OK (not caring about the comma).
02/09 08:49, 13F

02/09 08:52, , 14F
I suddenly found that I also used a comma in my
02/09 08:52, 14F

02/09 08:53, , 15F
first sentence here :p
02/09 08:53, 15F

02/09 10:41, , 16F
i agree with you ^^
02/09 10:41, 16F

02/09 12:04, , 17F
Note that... ==> Note ,$#^%$^,that... for example
02/09 12:04, 17F

02/09 12:07, , 18F
Note, for the record, the violators will be
02/09 12:07, 18F

02/09 12:08, , 19F
physically punished.
02/09 12:08, 19F

02/09 12:09, , 20F
Note that ==> Note @$%@%@$, that... for example
02/09 12:09, 20F

02/09 12:15, , 21F
Note at the end of this letter, Mr. Jones has
02/09 12:15, 21F

02/09 12:17, , 22F
signed and agreed to the specific terms and
02/09 12:17, 22F

02/09 12:17, , 23F
conditions.
02/09 12:17, 23F

02/09 12:19, , 24F
i personally think using 2 commas is clearer than
02/09 12:19, 24F

02/09 12:19, , 25F
using only ^^
02/09 12:19, 25F

02/09 12:22, , 26F
one. Forgot to put a 'that' in the 2nd example :p
02/09 12:22, 26F

02/09 12:25, , 27F
And the first one too :p What's going on with me?
02/09 12:25, 27F

02/09 12:54, , 28F
You mentioned a very important concept that
02/09 12:54, 28F

02/09 12:56, , 29F
punctuations were used for letting the meaning
02/09 12:56, 29F

02/09 12:56, , 30F
clearer. Sometimes people just focus too much
02/09 12:56, 30F

02/09 12:57, , 31F
on the grammar.
02/09 12:57, 31F

02/09 13:02, , 32F
punctuations "were" used --> are
02/09 13:02, 32F

02/09 13:08, , 33F
i couldn't agree with you more ^^
02/09 13:08, 33F
