The Red Sox will interview Dodgers third base coach Tim Wallach on Friday
regarding their managerial vacancy, while Padres baseball operations special
assistant Brad Ausmus is also slated to interview for the job, according to a
team source.
Wallach, 55, played 17 years in the big leagues, making five All-Star teams
and winning three Gold Gloves at third base. He spent two years as the
Dodgers hitting coach, two years as the manager of Triple-A Albuquerque and
then spent the last two seasons as the Los Angeles third base coach.
Ausmus, 43, wrapped up an 18-year playing career in 2010 that saw him make
one All-Star team and win three Gold Gloves for his excellence behind the
plate. The Dartmouth alum joined the Padres front office last November.
Ausmus has no managerial or coaching experience, though he did serve a brief
stint as the manager of Israel's entry into the World Baseball Classic last
month.
