砍掉重練,下一世代AMD處理器回歸傳統SMT多線程架構

AMD在處理器上也曾輝煌過,但是現在AMD一門心思都放在了APU上,高性能處理器門庭冷
落,第三代模塊化架構Steamroller也只用了APU上,FX系列依然看不到升級的希望。
如此低調背後傳聞AMD在憋大招,準備在2015年東山再起,重整高性能處理器,放棄「推
土機」以來的模塊化CMT多核架構,回歸傳統的SMT多線程架構。
AMD在2012年8月迎回了一個老員工——Jim Keller(吉姆·凱勒),他在蘋果公司擔任
移動處理器架構設計師,參與了A4、A5、A5X處理器的開發,但在更早之前他是AMD公司的
員工,與AMD前任CEO德克·梅爾一起創造了AMD最輝煌的歷史——Athlon XP處理器,彼時
的XP處理器甚至比後來的Athon 64還要火。
Jim Keller現在領導著AMD的處理器業務,正在開發新一代處理器架構。根據華爾街的消
息,新架構預計在2015年末問世,所以相關的產品可能要等2016年甚至2017年才能正式上
市。
至於具體的架構、性能如何,目前只知道AMD會回歸傳統的SMT(同步多線程)設計,放
棄始於「推土機」的CMT(Cluster Multithreading)多線程,也就是我們常說的物理多
線程。
結合這個傳聞來看,第四代推土機架構與新一代處理器架構在時間點上還是能銜接上的
,2015年再推一次模塊化架構,2015年底推出新一代架構,放棄毀譽參半的模塊化設計,
回歸傳統設計。
