Wang became a father for the first time on Tuesday and then tried to preserve his spot in the Yankees’ rotation on Wednesday. One out later, Cristian Guzman’s tapper to third went for an infield hit and pushed Harris to third. But Guzman should have been called out on the play. Wang could have been out of the inning if Pena made the catch and Vanover made the correct call, but he was stuck in a first-and-third situation with one out. He did not rescue himself. Nick Johnson lined a bullet to left-center that a diving Melky Cabrera could not grab. The ball rolled for a two-run triple that gave the Nationals a 3-0 lead. Before the game, Johnson was surprised that Wang, who gave up three runs and six hits, was in such a precarious position. “The guy won 19 games a couple of years ago,” Johnson said. 本來王這一局會沒事結束的, 但經過Pena的漏接+一壘審的誤判, 王卡在一出局一三壘有人的窘境, 而他終究沒有挽救這頹勢. After Wang tossed three straight balls to Adam Dunn in the fourth, he should have probably figured that Dunn would swing at a 3-0 pitch. While the Yankees were analyzing every pitch Wang threw, Lannan was dominating them. Lannan, who grew up as a Yankee fan, did not yield a hit for four innings. Cano collected the Yankees’ first hit and drove in their first run with a leadoff home run in the fifth.
