[閒聊] 選擇 centos 或 debian

時間過得好快, 一下子 Debian 用五年了, 剛好要換機器, 順便再次評估要選擇 CentOS 6.2 或 Debian 6.0.4 依序討論1. 常用軟體 2. 安全性 3. 虛擬機支援 4. 效能 5. 總結 1. 常用軟體 SAS 公司支援 Red Hat Enterprise 4,5, 卻沒提到 Debian CentOS 照著手冊上面的說明, 補上 libstdc++, compat-libstdc++, X11 libraries, glibc, libXp, SAS 還是裝不起來. 反倒是 Debian, 找到一篇 HowTo, 補上 xauth, x11-apps, libstdc++5, ia32-libs, libxp6 就裝起來了. 當然, 付費給 Red Hat 也是另一項選擇. MySQL 兩者皆有內建, 其版號分別為 CentOS 是 5.1.52 而 Debian 是 5.1.49 而官網出現 Debian 專屬的 MySQL 5.5.21, 也有 Red Hat/Oracle Enterprise 的 MySQL 5.5.21 2. 安全性套件兩者 kernel 都是 2.6.32 目前最新為 3.2.9 gcc 為 CentOS 較新, 4.4.6 v.s. 4.4.5 目前最新為 4.6.3 nautilus為 Debian 較新, 2.30.1 v.s. 2.28.4 目前最新為 3.2.1 samba 為 CentOS 較新, 3.5.10 v.s. 3.5.6 目前最新為 3.6.3 不過感覺起來是一樣舊. secunia Debian 6 和 Red Hat Enterprise Server 6 patched 都100%, 似乎有低報的嫌疑 http://secunia.com/advisories/product/34258/?task=statistics http://secunia.com/advisories/product/32988/?task=statistics 各自的官網, 也一直持續更新 http://rhn.redhat.com/errata/rhel-server-6-errata.html http://www.debian.org/security/#DSAS CentOS 應該有緊緊跟隨 Red Hat 的吧? 3. 虛擬機 KVM 和 VirtualBox 兩者皆有支援 4. 效能沒有 CentOS v.s.
