發現一篇遠古的新聞~[跟我上一篇的問題不相干] Friend of the court: Hingis back Rios http://www.usatoday.com/sports/other/sotnfo20.htm PARIS - He's the pride of Chile. He's also the most hated player in tennis. And haughty, cold and a sourpuss. Fortunately, Marcelo Rios has a friend in the world's No. 1 women's player, Martina Hingis. "He's nice to me,'' Hingis said Wednesday. ''I don't think he's such a monster as everybody thinks he is.'' Not many have the same feelings as Hingis. For the third straight year, Rios was awarded the Lemon Prize, given by French tennis writers to the player they like the least. The Orange Prize, which goes to the player they like best, went to defending champion Gustavo Kuerten of Brazil. 好過分 檸檬獎XD The prizes were handed out by Ilie Nastase, the former Romanian star who won both prizes. Rios, the No. 3 seed at the French Open, now is the favorite to win the title, following the elimination of No. 1 Pete Sampras and No. 2 Petr Korda. His baseline game is suited to clay, and he's been the dominant player on the tour this season, with five titles and a 36-4 record. He overtook Sampras and was ranked No. 1 for four weeks earlier this year. That made him the first South American to reach No. 1 since the computerized rankings started in 1973. It also made him a hero back home. More than 5,000 fans greeted him in Santiago, where he was received by President Eduardo Frei. The fans chanted, ''El Chino, El Chino'' - a nickname for his slightly Asiatic look. Even though Sampras recaptured the No. 1 spot, Rios was confident coming into the French Open. "This to me is Rios' tournament to win or lose,'' John McEnroe said recently. ''The stars have been aligned that he should win this if he buckles down and plays to his ability.'' Rios appears to be on track. He reached the third round Wednesday with a 6-4, 6-2, 6-2 victory over Emilio Alvarez of Spain. Rios could regain the top ranking if he makes the semifinals. So he probably will have to face the media often at the French Open. It's a prospect neither seems excited about. Rios is notoriously surly during news conferences, often giving two-word answers to long, thoughtful questions. :p Rios told Sports Illustrated - the same magazine that called him The Most Hated Man in Tennis - that ''unfortunately, anybody can be a tennis journalist.'' "They are not smart people,'' he said. Hingis came to the rescue again. "He's just a simple guy,'' she said. ''He probably has his own style of talking to somebody.''
