I'm a foreigner; and I disagree with Mr. Smarty-pants.
Please don't be discouraged by what he said.
There are plenty of foreigners whose Chinese is much more elementary than
your English, and they would be very happy to have someone who doesn't
speak perfect English because Taiwanese who speak English really well, never
give the foreigner a chance to practice his/her Chinese. (REALLY annoying!)
I truly believe all you need is a little courage, and I am quite sure you
will have a very rewarding experience. 加油！
