Carmelo Anthony is prepared to spend the prime years of his career in New
York, the Daily News has learned.
A person close to Anthony told The News on Wednesday that barring a last
minute change of heart Anthony will re-sign with the Knicks after "agonizing
over this" for the past week.
"He will have something for everybody on Thursday," said the friend who was
with Anthony before Anthony's scheduled workout with Kevin Durant and Kevin
Love in Los Angeles on Wednesday. "He is really torn because this is the
biggest decision of his career. But he wants to get it done in New York. He
told me he believes in Phil."

It’s unclear what Melo will be making, if he chooses to stay in New York.
Earlier in the free agency period, it was reported that Jackson did indeed
offer him the max contract he has desired, which was estimated to be $129
million over five years. Jackson will need to do some more fine tuning with
the roster if he expects to hoist the Larry O’Brien Championship Trophy in
2015. But, hopefully Melo understands that, takes less, and let’s Jackson
work his magic.

Carmelo Anthony's agent Leon Rose tells ESPN that "he hasn't made a decision
yet" on Knicks/Lakers.

It is unclear whether Anthony definitely will accept the full five-year, $129
million offer or take a little less to give Jackson salary-cap flexibility.
“Having played with some of the greatest players who’ve ever played the
game before, it makes everyone’s job easier,” Knicks coach Derek Fisher
said, after a summer-league practice, of the prospect of Anthony’s deal
becoming official. “That’s the way it will be if it happens.
“I haven’t been told anything at this point. It would be great if it were
to happen. I’d be excited if I am told that.’’

A report in Newsday cites sources saying that the Knicks are “optimistic”
Melo will re-sign (Iannazzone, July 10).
ESPN’s Marc Stein, on ESPN Radio, also claimed to hear that a deal is
imminent and an announcement will come soon.
Marc Berman of the New York Post reports that the Knicks are expected to
officially hear from Carmelo on Thursday (NYP, July 10).
