That's also because Jason Kidd will steal some minutes from Felton, who's never had a seasoned and serviceable backup like Kidd. He can't have Melo and Amare playing too much isolation together (in other words, crowding the court as you say). With more defined roles, that should help their relationship. What's more important, to me, is that they set a tone together defensively, and do it consistently. I spoke with Jeff Van Gundy, Charles Oakley, John Starks and a veteran NBA scout, and they all agreed. Plus, he has size to guard some shooting guards. But I think once Shumpert comes back, and also with Smith and Brewer on the roster, those guys make more sense to play alongside Kidd or Felton. They have more size on defense, as well as additional slashing and scoring abilities. Woodson won't let that happen, because he has great communication with his players, and he's no-nonsense guy who demands accountability, with results. Plus, the Knicks have plenty of veterans who have come to New York to sacrifice minutes and money to try to compete for a championship. I don't see much internal competition.
