這幾天看JJ, bestow <> reclaim
<> waste 兩種答案都有很多人選
從WM dictionary 來看(只取相關的意思)
Bestow:
1.to put to use : apply <bestowed his spare time on study>
2.to convey as a gift
3.to give (something) as a gift or honor (learner字典)
waste:
1.loss of something valuable that occurs because too much of it is being used
or because it is being used in a way that is not necessary or effective
reclaim
1. to get back (something that was lost or taken away) (learner字典)
<You might be able to reclaim some of the money you contributed.>
2.to demand or obtain the return of
Bestow的第一個意思put to use跟waste成為反義,waste time and bestow time
但是bestow跟reclaim是否成為反義呢?
從英文意思來看,reclaim所要求的東西,其所有權應還在原有人身上
相較之下,to gift as a gift,我的解釋是把所有權都已經給對方了,這樣兩者就沒有反義
但是learner字典給的那個例句好像又讓reclaim跟bestow成為反義了
(reclaim what contribute)
所以結論是....我也不知道,能不能只出現其中一個選項啊= =
