Athletics placed RHP Brandon McCarthy on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 18, with a strained right shoulder. McCarthy made two starts since having an outing pushed back due to shoulder trouble, but he's obviously not over the ailment. The tall right-hander has a history of shoulder problems, and it's not clear at this point how long he'll be out.
