Tebow and Trout patrolling the outfield together? It’s not as crazy as you might think. According to an interview given by a former Angels scout to Boston’s WEEI, the Los Angeles Angels would have drafted Tim Tebow had he expressed any interest in baseball. This was back in 2005, when Tebow impressed scouts by hitting .494 as a junior in high school. He did not play his senior year, so that he could focus on football. The interview was with Red Sox scout Tom Kotchman, who was a scout with the Angels at the time. “We wanted to draft him,” said Kotchman, ”but he never sent back his information card.” WEEI also talked to Red Sox Florida scout Stephen Hargett, who worked with Kotchman in Los Angeles. He had this to say on Tebow: “He had a strong arm and had a lot of power. If he would have been there his senior year he definitely would have had a good chance to be drafted. He had leverage to his swing. He had some natural loft. He had some good power. He was a good athlete. He had had enough arm for that position. He was a left-handed hitter with strength and some size.” We all know how it played out, but man, if this whole quarterback thing doesn ’t work, Fenway Park is just a 40-minute drive north from Foxborough.
