2 PhD scholarships at Aarhus University - (Participatory Information Technology) Applications are invited for a PhD fellowship/scholarship at the Graduate School of Science and Technology, Aarhus University, Denmark, within the interdisciplinary AU Center PIT (Participatory Information Technology) available from October 1, 2012. Title: Participatory IT (two projects): 1. Future technological platforms for Participatory IT. 2. Collaborative appropriation of public IT – concepts, methods and technologies. Research area and project description: The newly started AU Center PIT has two open PhD positions within Computer Science, in the two research groups of Computer Mediated Activity and Ubiquitous Computing and Interaction. The overall ambition of PIT is to modernize and enhance the Scandinavian tradition of democratic participation in ways that fit current society and information technology. Today every citizen is auser of IT, but public IT systems are often designed for workers and administrators rather than for this public. PIT brings the citizen into focus as a participant in design and in use of IT. Inspiration for such participation is found in grass-root movements and on-line communities. The research questions address IT support for new forms of human participation and cooperation. How do we identify and encourage such new forms? How can they be supported through improved design methods and IT platforms? How can we understand the possibilities and problems of this development? PIT builds on the participatory design tradition, but adds to earlier research by combining a focus on aesthetics and art with the more traditional usability and usefulness of participatory design and human-computer interaction. In PIT, these research traditions meet in research through design proceses, which focus on specific empirical cases (for more see pit.au.dk). Modernizing participation through information technology involves modernizing the technology itself. PIT will not be limited by what technology is readily available, instead we will push the limits of technology–whether it is peer-to-peer networking or ad-hoc distributed user interfaces. The two PhD projects are: 1. Future technological platforms for Participatory IT. 2. Collaborative appropriation of public IT – concepts, methods and technologies. Qualifications and specific competences: Applicants to the PhD positions must have a background in Human-Computer Interaction, with an interest in Interaction Design, Social and Collaborative Computing and/or Participatory Design. For at least one of the positions (No 1) we seek an applicant with a strong technical profile to work on future technological platforms for Participatory IT. For both positions and interest in interdisciplinary research is required. The successful applicants must be interested in working with users in design cases. Place of Employment and Place of Work: The place of employment is Aarhus University, and the place of work is IT-Byen Katrinebjerg. Contacts: Applicants seeking further information are invited to contact: Professor Susanne Bødker (bodker@cs.au.dk) or associate professor Niels-Olof Bouvin (bouvin@cs.au.dk) Application procedures: Please apply for this specific project here: http://talent.au.dk/phd/scienceandtechnology/opencalls/ Choose August 2012 Call with deadline 1 August 2012. You will be directed to the call, and must choose the programme 'Computer Science' Then you must fill out the information regarding: * Personal information * Academic background * Admission * Financing (if any) * Study: In the dropdown menu you must choose the project: "Participatory IT" * Source (how you found out about the call) * References (as a minimum 1 must be uploaded) * Application material (pdf only, max 20 MB, no zip): Motivation, CV, Diploma and transcript of records, project description Please be aware that you cannot save the application and continue working on it later. Therefore, you must have all relevant appendices, attachments, addresses for referees, etc. ready when you apply, as the entire application must be uploaded to the system in one go. As a minimum you need to upload the application material: * one reference letter * curriculum vitae, * motivation (max. 1 page) * transcripts and diploma(s) in one merged file. Please enter your unweighted grade average calculated and based on your transcript’s grading scale, BSc and MSc separately. * project description (½-4 pages) For technical reasons, you must upload a project description. When - as here - you apply for a specific project, please simply copy the project description above, and upload it as a PDF in the application You cannot submit the application if one or several of these documents have not been uploaded. Please note that the project will only be initiated if final funding (from GSST/the faculty) is secured. -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 62.113.219.4
