1. Jeff acts like he has money to burn, but actually he's broke.
請問上句中的like 是連接詞嗎？
對。
2. A child was heard crying somewhere.....
hear 的被動語態之後，不是要用不定詞嗎？為什麼上面的cry要加ing呢？
hear/sound/see/feel/taste 統稱感官動詞
後加原形動詞 或是 Ving
加Ving時表示動作正在發生。
3. The flishlight was barely sufficient enabling him to read the mark.
上句中的enable 為什麼是用enabling呢？
原句應為
The flishlight [which enables him to read the mark] was barely sufficient
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
此部份整個是主詞，
但英文不喜歡頭重腳輕的句子，所以會把修飾部份往後面擺。
此外，enabling是關係子句刪掉which之後的結果
沒有which做關係子句主詞，則主動的動詞要改為Ving，被動的保持p.p.型態
4.We believe the plans they have made are those of a better future for
all of us. 可以幫我解析一下上句的文法嗎？
We believe～ 後接一完整句子 （即下句）
the plans [they have made] are those of a better future for all of us.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
此部份為主詞 此部份為主詞補語
此外，those of a better future 的those，指的就是the plans
those of a better future = the plans of a better future
同樣的名詞在同一句子中再次提及時 單數用that代替 複數用those代替
