By Mark Dowdney RANTING Elton John branded media and police a bunch of "rude, vile pigs" as he flew into Taiwan yesterday. Sir Elton, who arrived by private jet for the final concert of a Far East tour, clenched his teeth in fury when he saw a crowd waiting for him at the airport. Exploding in an extraordinary hissy fit, the 57-year-old star raved: "You're all rude, vile pigs! Do you know what that means?" A photographer shouted back: "Why don't you get out of Taiwan?" Sir Elton replied: "We'd love to get out of Taiwan if it's full of people like you." Then he shouted again: "Pig! Pig!" Just for good measure the singer, who performed recently in Shanghai and Hong Kong, added: "We had a great tour of the Far East - then we come to Taiwan." His outburst at Taipei's Chiang Kai-shek International Airport was also directed at police. He claimed they had not protected him properly. A spokeswoman for Sir Elton said later: "His arrival was greeted by chaos and confusion. "No sooner had he left the aircraft, than he was led into the airport public immigration area which was immediately besieged by hordes of photographers and live TV crews intent on disrupting his progress. Local police and security failed to protect him from the ensuing chaos." The spokeswoman added that despite Sir Elton's "frightening" arrival his spirits remained high and he was "bravely" carrying on with tonight's concert at Chung Shan soccer stadium. It is not the first time the touchy singer has lost his temper in public. In a documentary Tantrums and Tiaras, made by his partner David Furnish, he famously threw a wobbly when a woman fan waved at him and shouted "Yoo hoo!" as he played tennis at his hotel on the French Riviera. Sir Elton stormed off court, saying: "I'm never coming back to the south of France again." British stars have clashed with over-enthusiastic media at Taipei airport before. When Robbie Williams arrived for a concert in 2001, he was cornered by journalists angry at his use of a swear word when referring to Taiwan. Williams hit back: "I didn't insult your country - I'll insult you." He fled the terminal pursued by lensmen. -- 蘇盈貴:屋頂上的朋友可以下來了! 2004.09.25愛與和平反乳溝晚會 -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 218.171.232.196
