URUGUAY Muslera – 6 - Looked a little uncertain under high crosses, punching tentatively at a couple of dangerous deliveries into the box. Ultimately this cost his side a goal when he was slow from his line to clear the header that led to the equaliser. A decent save late on made partial amends. M. Pereira – 7 - A great piece of skill towards the end of the first half went unrewarded as his shot was blocked by a South Korean arm in the box but a penalty was not awarded. Solid defensively to boot. Lugano – 7 - Made a great early challenge on Park Ji-Sung to set the tone for his performance. Strong in the centre of the back line, the Fenerbahce man seems to be growing increasingly into this World Cup, though he did have a couple of dodgy moments after the break. Godin – 7 - Tested frequently by Park Chu-Young, though the defender for the most part stood stoical, reducing the forward to having shots from outside the box. Didn’t look totally confident and was replaced at half-time, probably because of injury. Fucile – 7 - Got forward with more regularity than right-back Maxi Pereira, supporting the left flank of his side well. Even when he wasn’t utilised, he drew defenders away from the centre of the park, but when he was given the ball, he tended to use it well. Arevalo Rios – 6.5 - In the very first minute it seemed that the holding midfielder was going to have a nightmare as he gave silly possession away in the centre of the park to set up a chance for Korea. Didn’t make too many more aberrations sitting in front of the back four. Perez – 7 - Has been a truly dogged performer for Uruguay throughout their South African odyssey and can be pleased with his performance once again. Never shirks a challenge and has plenty of energy to get about the field. Combative and feisty, he could do with diving into challenges a little less. A. Pereira – 6.5 - Might have wanted to have been involved more in an offensive capacity, the midfielder got across the midfield well and made several good tackles, throwing his full bodyweight behind each challenge he made. Replaced with 15 minutes remaining. Cavani – 6.5 - When Uruguay attacked early on, much of their best play was funnelled through the Palermo man, who showed a great range of passing. As the Celeste became increasingly defensive, he faded from the game and his influence was negligible after the break. Forlan – 7 - Bright in the early stages of the match, and created Suarez’s goal with an astute cross that the defence simply didn’t know how to cope with. Faded a great deal after this encouraging opening. Suarez – 8.5 - Scored the opening goal of the game with a deceptively difficult finish from a tight angle and was always alert to pounce on scraps. Then came his masterpiece with ten minutes remaining, bending home a stunning winner from the edge of the box. He was lively throughout and deserved his brace. Substitutes Victorino – 7 - Good block on a Park Chu-Young shot but his poor header was the catalyst for the equaliser. Lodeiro – 6 – Came on with little over 15 minutes to play and never seriously influenced the game. A. Fernandez – n/a – Given five minutes at the end of the game. SOUTH KOREA Jung Sung-Ryong – 4.5 - Had an absolute nightmare with Uruguay's first goal, when he was caught in two minds whether to stay or go. In the end he did neither, leaving his net exposed. No chance with the second goal. Otherwise the shot-stopper wasn’t really troubled. Cha Du-Ri – 7 - Once again showed a great appetite to push forward from his position at right-back. Not afraid of a long range shot, the defender would narrowly miss the target on two occasions. Cho Yong-Hyung – 6 - There were several South Koreans culpable for the opening goal, and he was no exception. Stood and watched the ball roll in front of him and struggled to regain his composure fully afterwards. Has enjoyed better games, that’s for sure. Lee Jung-Soo – 5.5 - Endured an opening 30 minutes to forget. Caught napping with regard to the opening goal, and by that stage he had already awkwardly sliced a clearance in the box to put his side under danger. Caught dallying in possession and was lucky not to cost his side more. Lee Young-Pyo – 5.5 - The chief villain aside from the goalkeeper when it came to the Uruguayan opener, the experienced left-back was caught totally sleeping as Suarez nipped in behind him. Enjoyed a far better second half as he seemed to be afforded more freedom to attack. Ki Sung-Yong – 6 - Struggled to get into the game in the first half and was lucky not to concede a penalty kick towards the end of that period as his arms were in an unnatural position when he went to block a shot. His set piece delivery was mixed. Kim Jung-Woo – 5 - His passing was wayward to an awful degree at times and he allowed Forlan way too much room to deliver his cross for the opening goal of the game. Not good enough from the midfielder, whose weak attempt to challenge Suarez was also a factor in the second goal. Kim Jae-Sung – 6.5 - Put himself about the pitch impressively but struggled to really get a handle on the game in the first half. As Korea pushed increasingly forward, he became surplus to requirements and was ultimately replaced with half an hour to go. Park Ji-Sung – 7 - By some distance the best known of the South Korean players in the west, the Manchester United player showed some nice touches out wide, getting forward positively and passing clever. Would have been better utilised through the middle, where his craft would have been highly valued. Lee Chung-Yong – 6.5 - Played as the floating player behind the lone forward and struggled to have an especially positive impact for all the possession he had. His decision making was too often poor and the Bolton Wanderers man seemed to lack the guile to really break Uruguay down. Scored the equalising goal but missed a fine chance soon after to make it 2-1. Park Chu-Young – 7.5 - One of the best players on the pitch, and probably the pick of his side. Gave the defence a really torrid time and hit the post in the first half with a delicious free kick that was six inches from finding the net. Strong and technical competent, he continues to enhance his reputation. Substitutes Lee Dong-Gook – 5.5 - His weak finish towards the end of the game that could have taken the match into an additional half hour typified a low-key showing after coming on from the bench.
