胰島素是一種具有刺激作用的賀爾蒙，可以促進成長及新陳代謝，
並且幫助合成蛋白質、脂肪以及利用葡萄糖等等。當我們攝取食物後，
血液中的糖分增加，胰島素分泌也隨之增加，將糖分送到周邊組織去吸收利用。
反之，血糖濃度降低時，胰臟分泌的另一種賀爾蒙－升糖素－濃度便會增加，
刺激肌肉、肝臟釋出糖分，使血糖維持穩定。若失去這種調節功能，
致使血糖過高，就是所謂的糖尿病。

Insulin is a kind of incitant hormone; it can promote the growth and
metabolism. Furthermore, it helps to synthesize protein, fat,
use glucose and so on. When we ingest food, then the blood sugar and
insulin will increase. Moreover, it will send sugar to the peripheral
tissue to assimilate. On the contrary, when the blood sugar concentrations
reduce, another hormone called “Glucagon” from pancreas will lever to
rise-up. Therefore, it will stimulate the muscles and the liver to
liberate the sugar. It can keep the blood sugar steady.
If we lose the function of modulation will cause overly high, so-called
“Diabetes Mellitus.”
