呃~我找不到你所說的課文(我手上是 7th 原文)
buffer應該算是1.3 Mass Storage裡File Storage and Retrieval
第一段講Physical records,電腦在存取檔案系統時的基本單位(實際區塊大小)
第二段講Logical records,依照檔案所記載的資訊內容來區分的一個邏輯上基本單位
之後是An area of memory used in this manner is called a buffer.
後面barabara.....
buffer：意指工作進行的記憶空間之外，另外使用一種記憶區，
可能是cache、也可能是一般memory來進行暫存或事先處理工作。
例如：印表機的buffer是用來暫存尚待列印的資料。
Physical record 和 Logical record 大小經常不一致，
有時一筆Physical record內含數筆Logical records，
有時一筆Logical record因太大而必須拆解為幾個Physical record
此時利用buffer來進行必要的拆解or組合，
以得到所欲求的logical record 再進行處理。
