這邊要跟大家講個觀念，就是一定要盡量查過每個字，確保你知道這個字所有的意思之後再去答題。
好比說frequent這詞除了做為「頻繁」以外也可以當作「頻繁的去某處」的意思。
Frequent amendments to documents disappoints me.
文件頻繁的更改讓我不高興。
I frequent bars when I feel discouraged by work.
當我被工作搞到好沮喪時，我就會很頻繁的去酒吧。
回到正題，The man opposite whom he was sitting had tears in his eyes.
讓我們先拆解句子的片段:
The man/opposite whom he was sitting/had tears in his eyes
這句在這個現在文法比較鬆的時代也做為
The man who he was sitting opposite had tears in his eyes.
opposite這邊介係詞，不是動詞也不是形容詞，
而使用關代的時候，關係子句的主動詞如果有附屬介系詞，會將介系詞放在關代前面
也就是說，這句意思是：坐在他對面的那位男人，含淚眼眶。
當然有些是可以不用這樣的，好比說pay attention
我們不會說The presentation to which I paid attention was comprehensive.
而會說The presentation which I paid attention to was comprehensive.
至於這邊詳細的規則我也不太清楚，只能說學一個片語背一個囉。

: He beckoned her to approach, ___ she didn't.
: 答案是which
: 我覺得怪怪的，which的先行詞是什麼？ to approach嗎？
: 那句子不就變成
: which she didn't = she didn't to approch 怪怪的

先說，是She didn't approach而不是She didn't to approach哦。
先行詞可以是很多東西，可以是整句話，可以是一個名詞，可以是時間，更可能是動詞。
Amy likes to make cookies, which her husband appreciates.
Amy likes to make cookies which her husband appreciates.
同一句話卻有兩種意思，英文就是這樣，很複雜。
關係這系列的，有分限定以及非限定，而這兩個名詞的解說網路上一堆，因為太複雜所以就不轉貼過來，有興趣可以自己去稍微找一下。
有逗點的為非限定用法而限定用法為沒有逗點的。
Amy likes to make cookies, which her husband appreciates可以是兩個意思：
１）愛咪喜歡做餅乾，老公很喜歡的（老公喜歡的是餅乾，先行詞為cookies）。
２）愛咪喜歡做餅乾，老公很喜歡的（老公喜歡的是前面整句，可能喜歡的是愛咪的這個興趣）。
３）愛咪喜歡做她老公喜歡的餅乾。（意思同第一句）
有時候限定跟非限定意思一樣，也有不一樣的時候：
The students who have finished their work may be dismissed.
做完作業的學生可以下課。
限定子句，意為「做完作業的人可以下課」但還有一些未做完的人是不能下課的
The workers, who have finished their work, may
leave.
這些學生，已經做完作業，可以離開。
非限定子句，意為「所有的學生都做完作業，都可以離開。」
