Stefano Fiore has explained the secret to Lazio's success despite the financial
crisis that has hit the club.
“We love our work,” revealed the former Italian international, “and have a
sense of team spirit.”
The Biancocelesti have emerged as dark horses for the title despite the fact
they have not been paid wages in five months.
“Everyone is aware of the situation and in the long run it could become a
problem, but it will never affect our performance on the field. And to think,”
he added, “last season the fans called us mercenaries.”
The Tifosi reacted angrily to last year’s poor results – including a 5-1
derby defeat – but even after the summer sales of Alessandro Nesta and Hernan
Crespo the fans have closed ranks around their squad.
"We are playing some of the best football in Serie A,” continued Fiore, “and
on a tactical level right now are better than even Carlo Ancelotti’s Milan.”
Teammate Giuseppe Favalli agreed with Fiore in his analysis of the situation.
“We need to maintain this humility and desire to enjoy ourselves on the field,”
noted the defender. “These are the weapons that are allowing us to do so well
this season.”
