T-Mac's jersey comes back from space
NASA mission specialist Robert Curbeam, who wore Tracy McGrady's road Rockets u
niform on the space shuttle on the 13-day mission in December, returned the jer
sey to McGrady in a brief ceremony at Toyota Center with crew members, commande
r Mark Polansky, mission specialist Nicholas Patrick and mission specialist Joan
Higgenbotham before the game.
McGrady had visited the Johnson Space Center in August when he loaned the jerse
y to Curbeam.
"He was playing astronaut for the day," Curbeam said. "He asked if I could take
the jersey up with me on the shuttle. I told him I would try because I don't h
ave the ultimate authority on what goes on the shuttle or not. The boss said it
was OK so I took it.' It's a nice thing for the Rockets' organization and the
City of Houston. And I love basketball."
