BOSTON -- Josh Beckett, who threw a one-hit, complete-game shutout against the Tampa Bay Rays in his previous start last Wednesday in Tropicana Field, has been scratched from his start Tuesday night against the San Diego Padres. Manager Terry Francona said Beckett is ill and has not felt well for the last couple of days. The Sox manager blamed the all-encompassing "intestinal turmoil'' as the cause of Beckett's discomfort. Beckett is the only starting pitcher (and ERA qualifier) in the major leagues with a sub-2 ERA. He is at 1.86, having allowed five or fewer hits in each of his last seven starts, all of which have been six or more innings in duration. He has had great success against the Padres, most of it coming when he was still with the Florida Marlins, going 5-1 with a 2.16 ERA in six starts against San Diego. Aceves hasn't pitched since last Thursday, when he gave up a bases-empty home run to Casey Kotchman.
