Free-agent relievers
Mike Timlin aside, the Red Sox bullpen was a disaster in 2005.
It ranked last in the American League in ERA (5.19) and
12th in strikeouts per nine innings (6.21).
Obviously, they'll need to rebuild.
What follows are some of the top free agents on the market this offseason.

Billy Wagner
If the Sox do trade Foulke, they'll likely be in the market for a closer.
Billy Wagner is the cream of this crop,

The lefty will be 35 next year, but he’s still throwing in the high 90s.
The Phillies have made signing Wagner a priority,
but he wants a guaranteed three years and the team is reluctant.
His price tag will be high.

with 100 strikeouts in 70 1/3 innings

He pitched for the Red Sox in 2003.

where he was 46 for 47 in save chances.

If they decline it, Guardado can elect to return at $4.25 million
plus incentives. Guardado, in whom Boston had interest at the trade deadline,
had 36 saves and a 2.72 ERA this season. He is 35 years old.

With the Braves, Fransworth had a 1.98 ERA and was a
perfect 10 for 10 in save opportunities.
For the season, he had a 2.19 ERA with 87 strikeouts in 70 innings.
