While coach Simone Pianigiani has publically waved the white flag as far as
Italy's chances of making Eurobasket 2011 are concerned, claiming his team's
hopes are effectively dead - Andrea Bargnani clearly has other ideas as he
breathed new life into their campaign to fire his side to an 82-73 win over
Finland.

The man known as ‘The Magician' poured in 24 points as Italy bounced back from
a miserable week and their back to back defeats against Israel and Latvia to
finally get off the mark.

回生。
While their destiny is out of their hands after two losses, a first win at
least now gives Italy a glimmer of hope while Finland flounder at the foot of
Group A still in search of their first victory.

It was a much better performance by Italy who always held the upper hand from
tip to buzzer as Finland felt the backlash of the hosts' anger at their
inability to claim a win at the first two attempts.

Italy raced into a 26-8 lead when Marco Belinelli drained a three-pointer and
while Finland fought hard, the home side were still in control heading to the
locker rooms at 47-34.

When the teams returned, Italy kept their foot on the accelerator until midway
through the third, Finland finally managed a telling run.

Trailing 55-38, they outscored Italy 17-4 to put a new reflection on the game
heading into the last quarter.

With five minutes to go a tip-in by Tuukka Kotti made it a one shot-game at
68-65 but this was as close as Finland would get.

Italy found top gear again and eased away down the stretch to take the win.

Belinelli had 15 points and 4 assists while Teemu Rannikko had a game high 27
points for Finland.
