For my knowledge, it happened. My friend who interpreted a book
in economics field. Then he found out that many universities in TW
put this book in reading list, or even a textbook.
This is a beautiful book(New Ideas from Dead Economists), and
the publisher(Prophet Press) did a great job for marketing this book.
I don't think this kind of result is a "windfall". This is a book
which was popular in the universities in the US before it entered
TW. And the editor knew it very well before publishing it.
