Please refer to Fig. A disk of radius r is suspended from a vertical
spring with spring constant , and it can roll without slipping in the
vertical direction. A ball of mass m is constrained to slide along a beam
that is connected to the boundary of the disk. Please use complex notations
to find the position, velocity, and acceleration of the ball in terms of
generalized coordinates.
Hint: (i) The system is 3-DOF and hence only three generalized coordinates
are needed; (ii) You should first define a fixed coordinate system; (iii) Let
y (see Fig. 1) be the displacement of the disk.
