The Orlando Magic's four-year deal with unrestricted free agent power forward Brandon Bass became official Friday night. An NBA source confirmed to Sentinel staff writer Tania Ganguli that the agreement is worth $18 million over four years, though the deal also allows Bass to opt out of the contract and become a free agent after the 2011-12 season. "Brandon has been a very efficient, very effective player for both Dallas and New Orleans," Orlando Magic Coach Stan Van Gundy told the Sentinel moments ago. "He's a guy who can score. He can make a 17-foot jumper. He can score in the low post. He can put it on the floor and take you to the basket, and he’s rebounded the ball well. The Magic center, at least for the next five days, had this to say about the deal (entering the caveat that he hasn't heard it's true yet, but if it is...) Gortat kind of contradicted that to start off, though. He said the things he was hearing made him think the Magic would match Dallas's 5-year, $34 million offer sheet. We asked him that twice and both times he said, that's what it seems like. Gortat insisted he wouldn't be disappointed if Orlando matched the offer, but going to Dallas would mean a lot more playing time for him. He also knows that if the Magic match the offer, that doesn't have to mean he'll be in Orlando long-term. Smith said the two deals don't necessarily have to do with each other. He also said he's figured out what he's going to do, but said he was "still working on a few other things."
