Nintendo Gets Compression Program from S3 Graphics http://goo.gl/cGpd S3 Graphics announced today that it has signed a new agreement with Nintendo. This new deal will allow Nintendo access to the S3 Texture Compression technology that can achieve six-fold compression thereby reducing memory bandwidth and expanding the amount of texture imagery for the onboard graphics memory. "This agreement furthers our dedication to providing our game developers with leading compression technology to enable them to deliver the best possible gaming experience," said Mr. Genyo Takeda, General Manager of Nintendo's Integrated Research and Development Division. "We look forward to continuing our licensing arrangement with S3 Graphics." "We are extremely pleased that Nintendo has chosen to use the S3TC compression technology in its world renowned gaming platforms," said Dr. Ken Weng, General Manager of S3 Graphics. "The license agreement reaffirms S3 Graphics' S3TC texture compression technology as the industry standard for both PC and game console graphics." ===== 這也算另類的臺灣之光吧, 曾經風光 PC 市佔一時的顯卡大廠 S3 Graphics 早已納入 VIA 旗下已久, 不過 S3TC 這項圖形材質壓縮技術也早行之有年,不知道老任這次要運用在哪臺主機上? 透過 S3TC 壓縮技術可達成壓縮比 4:1 ~ 6:1 的程度,不過由於是失真性壓縮, 所以材質當然多少會比未壓縮前有些許失真,但成像品質多少還是在可接受範圍裡就是 :) -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 211.74.58.235
