懶的翻了~ Reality TV Games participated in a post-elimination phone call with America Next Top Model 14's Tatianna Kern. ************************************************** How tall are you? 5'10. (age?) 21. (ethnicity?) My mom is African-American and my dad is Italian. What is your hometown? Where do you live now? I was born in Baltimore, Maryland but I can't really claim it as my hometown because I was just born there, we moved from state to state for a while and I went to middle school in England and I stayed in England up until eleventh grade and then we moved to Hawaii - that's why I was shaky on a hometown, because I am like, "where have I been the longest... where do I feel the most comfortable?" and it's been Hawaii. (Why did you move so much?) It's job related... my father... and in a few months they're moving again, I am not moving with them, I am going to stay here and go to med school. They are always crazy... moving everywhere and I was going along for the ride for a while, but I am staying here [in Hawaii on the island of Oahu]. (laughs) I got to travel a lot, I went all over Europe... I loved it, but I am staying here. What are you doing now? I am in my last semester in college, I will be graduating in May, I am so excited! I took a lot of virology courses, but my actual major is microbiology. I am trying to be a medical examiner so I am trying to do things that focus on pathology. Why exactly did you become a volunteer mortician? Well I knew even in my freshman year that my goal was to be a medical examiner, but you can't just rush into a career like that and not have a background in it because you don't want to see a dead body and be freaked by it, then your whole education has been wasted. So my freshman year I went to a local mortuary and I told them that I was studying to become a microbiologist and I want to be a medical examiner, I want to get in touch with it and see how I feel about dead bodies, see if I feel comfortable around blood and open bodies and cadavers, what can you do for me? And they were like, "Of course come right on in, we would love to help you," being a mortician does not require a college degree, it is like a regular paying job and you don't have to have any experience with anatomy because you are just helping out with funerals. And when I got over there I was like, "What can I do? How can I help?" They were like, "you can help with embalming, we can show you how embalming works, we can show you how cremation works and we can show you how to inject the formaldehyde," and I got to do that for a while, it was really beneficial because I wasn't sure if I would be comfortable around dead bodies and it turns out that I am, I didn't have a problem with it, it didn't make me sick. So now I know that this is what I want to do and I am glad I did it. (So are you going to be like the people on CSI?) The only person I see myself being like is the guy in the morgue on CSI Las Vegas... being at the crime scene, I am not into that, I want to be like that old guy with the cane. Your interest developed because your brother was diagnosed with HIV? Yes, back when I was in tenth grade he told me, well he didn't tell me personally he told my mother who told me. She was concerned and he wasn't doing anything about it and I became really concerned for myself and I became focused. In high school I really didn't have a strong passion for anything, [but with this I was like] I have to do something... I want to do something with microbiology, something with viruses. I want to know what's causing this, so it fueled my interest. (So what is your next step?) The next step is to go to med school, I am hoping to go to med school in Hawaii, they have a pretty good program here [at the University of Hawaii], it is actually one of the top ones in the nation. So how does modeling fit in with all this? I had no modeling experience going into this, so America's Next Top Model was huge pressure for me. I didn't know what to expect, even on the first photo shoot I was in awe, like, "how does it work... what is the industry about?" "is this what I want... how do I feel about it?" But now I feel really comfortable with it, I didn't even feel like I was very photogenic from the start and then suddenly you get these photos back and you're like, "I look really good and this feels really comfortable for me," and even like the CoverGirl commercial was really beneficial for me... I just felt comfortable, it wasn't uncomfortable at all being up on the jumbotron in Times Square, that wasn't a problem for me, I learned from it. (Winning the CoverGirl challenge must have been a boost?) Yes! The went in alphabetical order, and I was towards the end so I got a chance to watch the other girls; I knew you had to be friendly and upbeat and don't be as stiff as the other girls, so when I got up there it was like well you're suppose to dance and look like you are having fun, and that's what I tried to do. I learned that I can do all this studying and I can go to school and that could be my passion, but you can also do these other things and have other talents that I never knew I had that. I am definitely not going to drop modeling, I had a good time and it's been a really good experience and just from the exposure on the show I hope to further my modeling career as well. Will you continue modeling? The show is over for me and I hope to get signed with an agency. (in Hawaii?) The modeling industry in Hawaii isn't that big... Hawaii has a burgeoning industry... I don't think my market is New York, but I would love to go to LA and start there. I enjoy it as much as I enjoy going to school and if there was an agency [interested in me], then I would be willing to go to LA. What type of modeling appeals to you? Out of all of the challenges that we had, I really enjoyed the runway, I don't know, it made me feel more modelesque, modeling is supposed to be about [representing the] designers and runway was what I most enjoyed. The challenging thing [for me] is the photo shoots, even the crazy, random ones like the vampire shoots were fun, but I am happy when I am doing runway. (So you are most interested in runway?) I think that I am little more heavy set than most runway models - not heavy like super heavy, but a little bit more, but I would like to try anyways. Did you actually think Megan Fox was a model or did you misunderstand something? She has been so popular in the past year, they didn't ask who was your favorite model, they said to emulate a model and I was like I see her everywhere and she has posters everywhere, she was in Vogue and she has all these magazine covers. Well by seeing her everywhere and not knowing a lot about the industry and I was like, "She's gorgeous and I'm going to do her." (laughs). Do you have a favorite designers? model(s)? For the challenge with Toccara we had to study all these famous designers and based on what I've seen I really liked Zac Posen, I have seen his stuff everywhere... especially on the red carpet... I have seen his stuff on Beyonce and it looks so gorgeous, I really like how it hugs your body and curves to your form and he has been my favorite designer since the show, I didn't know any designers beforehand. As for favorite models, I know it's really cliche but I just love Adriana Lima from Victoria's Secret because she is just so pretty and not to sound rude or anything, but she has the mangled teeth, not as mangled as mine but I like the fact that she always smiles and she is always so happy... in her photos she doesn't show her teeth but when you see candids of her she is just so happy... how can you not love her! How did you come to be cast on Top Model? Were you a Miss Hawaii contestant? I was in Miss Hawaii '09. [With Top Model], I was eating lunch with my girlfriend and I was about to take her to the airport and some local guy came over to me and was like "why aren't you over at America's Next Top Model?" "What are you talking about and who are you?" "My girlfriend just tried out and they're over at [inaudible] and you should totally go try out, it's the last day and they haven't had a lot of girls and I think you should go over there." I thought about it and while I was taking my girlfriend to the airport, I asked her what I should do and she was like, "drop by there, what could it hurt?" So I went over there and there wasn't anybody there and I asked if they were still casting for the show and they were like "Oh yeah, of course!" and I did the paperwork and took photos and did an interview right on the spot and they told me that they would call me if they were interested. (So all of this happened because some guy came over to you?) Yeah some guy and I still don't know who he is. Did you watch Top Model before? No I never watch it in the past, the only one that I saw was when they went to Italy and the girl cheated on her boyfriend, that was the most dramatic scene of all the top models series and once it happened it was everywhere, so that is the only part that I have seen. (So it must have been an adjustment when you were cast?) Yeah, I was like, "why do they do all this crazy stuff and why are all these girls always screaming?" What were your favorite and least favorite challenges, teaches and/or photo shoots? My favorite photo shoot had to be the nude shoot because coming from no modeling experience that was my first photo shoot experience and just getting through it and being able to go, "it really wasn't that bad," was a good thing, maybe I didn't do so well, but I felt really comfortable. The dance shoot was not me because I am not particularly a dancer and I didn't know what to do with tap, but I think my least favorite shoot was the perfume one because it was just so cold and they had this crazy rain drizzling across you and it was freezing rain and I had gotten the critique the week before about being more vulnerable and I tried to look as soft as possible but that is really, really difficult when you are angry about the rain in your eyeballs. You don't know how you did, because you don't know how your face looks, it's just a huge question because you don't know how you did, in the photo you could look crazy because you feel crazy standing there on that block. How did you feel about your elimination? I wasn't particularly surprised, I had a drop in confidence in the last shoot [versus my previous shoots]. After the photo shoot was finished I had this devastated feeling because I felt during the shoot that I didn't have "it" this time and when the critique came back and Tyra said that I didn't do particularly well, well I felt that within myself... I wasn't shocked. How did you like living in New York? New York was really nice, we had a really nice flat, a penthouse. It was cold, freezing cold, [especially] coming from Hawaii where it was a straight eighty degrees to New York where it was forty degrees... I had lived on the east coast for a couple of years. I loved Christmas in New York, it was a really good time to be there, I loved the spirit. Who were your closest friends in the house? Who have you kept in touch with? Krista and Alexandra, they made me laugh so often, Alexandra was outside of the drama with me and we would be looking at things from the outside and be like, "wow, these girls are so silly." Krista was kinda like fuel for the fire, but she was not taking the drama in internally, so it was always good for us to get together and laugh about it. Outside of the show I have also become good friends with Jessica and Brenda. Did you like your makeover, do you still have your makeover? I liked the fact that they turned me blond because I never got to be blond, but as soon as I could get get back to being brunette I changed back because blonde didn't really work for me, it takes a lot of maintenance and I just love my hair being brown. (You have interesting eyes, what color are they?) They change, they are kinda yellow and orange in the center and the outside is like a dark blue and right after that is a green, but the color changes, it changes to gray as well. How have your family and friends responded to you being on the show? My best friend Janine was super shocked, she knows how I am, she knows how non-confrontational I am and non-dramatic, she was like, "how are you going to go on reality TV, that is so not you?" and I was, "well I am going to try it out," and she was, "well I would love to see you on TV, so go for it." But still, she was like really shocked and was like, "you like to go to school... you like to study... you have really good friends... you get along with girls... how are you going to boost any type of ratings(?), you're just some down-to-earth chick." As far as my family, my mom was really, REALLY excited because she has been trying to get me to model since I was very young and I was like, "I am not modeling, I need to read!" but when the Top Model opportunity came along, it was my dad who was like, "you are not modeling, you need to read!" He was afraid that I was being derailed and needed to be more focused on school. I was scheduled to graduate in December, but I had to leave to go on the show and he was concerned that I was wasting all these years of studying to go on this modeling kick. I stayed in some classes while I was gone and he was happy about that, but he has been really skeptical about the whole experience. What few words pop in your mind about... Jay Manuel - Focused, encouraging, passionate and he has an eye for good modeling. Jay Alexander - Flamboyant, I read a lot of his book and I really think that he is an achiever... coming from where he came from. He is really positive, he's cracking jokes all the time, but he does not ruin your self esteem. Nigel - Serious... hmm, I don't know the right word for lacking a sense of humor, but he seemed to be lacking an element there... like with ALT, it was funny to see the dialog between those two. Andre Leon Talley - The one word that comes to mind is "whoa!" because he is just so over the top and you have to take his words into consideration because he is so influential. Seeing him in panel, it's like, "Wow, this guy is commanding," he commands your attention. Tyra - Beautiful but she is also hilarious, off camera you can just see her cracking jokes, she's laughing at ALT... she's making Nigel feel uncomfortable, she is like a real person. When you see her on TV people think that she is so daunting and intimidating, but when she is on panel and joking with you, she seems like a personable person. Which judge (or judges) do you think supported you the most? ALT really supported me a lot, he has a strange way of saying things like "my, you're out there!" "your output is really dazzling!" He always had some crazy feedback. I also feel like Dania was a good judge for me as well it was the first time that someone had commented on my personality. Initially Tyra and Nigel were like, "why are you so negative?" "why is your face so frowny?" But Dania was like, "you are so positive and so friendly," it was like a contrast to what they had said so I really appreciated her for that. Are you on Facebook, Twitter or some other social network / blog? I am on Facebook. http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000658266069 Is there anything that you would like to say to your fans? I have actually seen your web site... Reality TV Games and I really do appreciate the support even though it has not always been positive, but any review critique has been really good for me. For the people who are my fans I really appreciate it, it has been a fantastic journey.
