NY Yankees notes: Reliever David Robertson shut down with elbow tightness by Marc Carig/The Star-Ledger Tuesday September 08, 2009, 8:28 PM NEW YORK -- The Yankees have shut down right-handed reliever David Robertson, who for the last two weeks has experienced lingering tightness in his right elbow. The team is scheduling an appointment with orthopedic surgeon James Andrews. Robertson, who has no history of elbow issues, underwent an MRI on Monday but the results proved inconclusive, prompting the Yankees to send Robertson to the specialist Andrews. The news is surprising considering how well Robertson has pitched. The 24-year-old is 2-1 with a 3.29 ERA in 42 appearances. In 41 innings, Robertson has 61 strikeouts. "We've all seen how he's pitched," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. "He's been lights-out." Robertson said the stiffness typically sets in after his appearances. Girardi has tried to manage the injury by keeping Robertson from pitching back-to-back days.
