Re: [農場] 他們人咧?(2006新秀)
Where are they now? 2006 Yankees Prospects 11-20
20. Matt Smith, LHP
One of the few lefties on this list, Matt Smith was pretty old for a prospect
at this point. He was 27 for much of the 2006 season, and saw time in the
majors for the Yanks that year. He pitched 12 shutout innings in relief for
the Yankees that season, before being dealt along with three other players
for Bobby Abreu and Cory Lidle.
He had some more success in relief for the Phillies, but then underwent Tommy
John Surgery in 2007. He signed a minor league contract with the cubs in
January but has not appeared in a game yet.

19. Kevin Howard, 2B/3B
The Yankees received Kevin Howard in exchange for Tony Womack in 2005, which
should tell you he was never worth much. He was terrible for AA Trenton in
2006, and has since played in the Dodgers and Phillies organizations. Howard
is currently playing for the Blue Jays AAA affiliate in Las Vegas, although
not particularly well.

18. Sean Henn, LHP
Sean Henn was highly touted in the Yankees farm system as a lefty with an
electric arm, something the system had been lacking. He made it to AAA in '05
and has bouncing between Major League teams and Triple-A affiliates since
then. His velocity isn't great anymore, as he has averaged just 91.8 MPH with
his fastball in his major league career. He bounced from the Yankees to the
Padres to the Twins, and has just been destroyed by major league hitters. His
ERA, by year, from 2005 to 2009 is: 11.12, 4.82, 7.12, 7.71, and 7.36, for a
career ERA of 7.53. That's about as bad as you can do in over 70 innings.

17. Alan Horne, RHP
Up until 2007, Horne would always produce and get a lot of strikeouts, but
would never stay healthy. In 2007, it seemed like Horne had finally put it
together. He won Eastern League pitcher of the year after putting together a
season where he started 27 games with a FIP of 3.32. At the age of 25, he
had put himself in a position to start the season at AAA
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, and be one of the first pitchers in line for a call up
if a starter was needed. Things did not go as planned, and Horne struggled
with injuries for much of the 2008 season. He began to pitch some rehab
starts in AA this season, but found him on the disabled list for the third
time this season on June 9th. He is out with an unknown shoulder injury.
Horne is running out of time at this point, and it is looking more and more
likely that his 2007 season was the fluke, and the injuries are the norm for
him.
按:07年看起來是運氣好而已,瘋狂受傷,掙扎中。
16. Matt DeSalvo, RHP
I never was a very big fan of DeSalvo. While he had good sinking stuff, he
never had much control. In his minor league career, he has walked 5 batters
per nine innings, and that is not going to translate into good major league
results. Predictably, he has gotten bombed in his few major league
opportunities, with a 12:20 K:BB ratio and a 7.89 ERA. He is currently
starting in AAA for the Rays and has a 19:18 K:BB ratio. Don't expect to see
the Rays to ever call him up.

15. Melky Cabrera, OF
You all know Melky Cabrera, and may be surprised to see him at only #15 on
this list, considering 2006 was the year when Melky broke into the majors at
the age of 22 and maintained a .360 OBP while getting playing time at all 3
OF positions. The truth is, though, Melky was never a big-time prospect, and
no one expected him to do that well in the majors. As we all witnessed,
Cabrera played progressively worse in 2007 and 2008, but has done a
respectable job so far in 2009. Melky is slumping in June, so lets hope it's
just a slump and not a continued trend of starting off hot in April and then
playing poorly for the last four months of the season.
按:3、4、5月很強。
14. Steven White, RHP
White was always a bit of a fringe prospect, he didn't really have any one
plus tool, but always got decent results. After a strong season in AAA at the
age of 26 in 2007 where he posted a 3.63 FIP, he looked like he might have a
future in the majors as a long man and spot starter, but that never worked
out. White posted a 5.57 FIP for AAA Scranton in 2008 and was released by the
Yankees on August 12th, 2008. He has not resurfaced in any other organization
since.
按:被釋出之後,到現在還是自由球員。
13. Brett Gardner, OF
After what he has done so far this season, I am a huge Brett Gardner fan.
Before the season, many debated how much value Brett Gardner would have, and
some thought it would not be that much. There questions over whether he would
be able to work walks against major league pitchers when they didn't have
anything to fear from Gardner, who is mainly a singles hitter. Gardner has
done a great job this year, posting an impressive OBP of .358, stealing 16
bases, and only being caught twice. Gardner doesn't really look like a great
defensive center fielder, but his Ultimate Zone Rating disagrees with my
eyes. In 77 games(53 starts) in CF for his career, he has maintained a
UZR/150 of 25.9. There is no way that is sustainable, but it is still very
impressive and tells you Gardner is a defensive asset. Gardner has already
been worth 1.5 WAR this season, and I hope he can keep it up.
按:快腿,只要用時間來證明他的contact是不是真的進步了。
12. Tim Battle, OF
Tim Battle was a 3rd round pick for the Yankees in 2003, and was said to have
great tools, but never got any results. His career minor league numbers of
.241/.298/.377 leave a lot to be desired. Last season was his 4th season
spending time in Tampa, and he still was not able to maintain an OBP above
.300. He was released by the Yankees yesterday after spending the entire
season on the Trenton DL.
按:有好的天份,但是在職棒體系打得不怎樣,受傷之後就被釋出了。
11. J. Brent Cox, RHP
Cox was an established college closer who moved through the Yankees system
quickly and put up great numbers. He was touted as a future setup man, but it
does not look like he will reach that potential. He had Tommy John Surgery
and missed the entire 2007 season. Since his return, he has just not been the
same pitcher. He struggled last season in AAA, posting a K:BB of 16:17 in 36
innings. This year, he struggled in 20.1 innings in AAA with a 7.08 ERA and
was recently demoted to AA. Cox's four outings in AA have not been any more
kind to him, as he has given up 3 ER in 3.2 IP. The future doesn't look
bright for Cox, as he never had overpowering stuff and it seems like he has
lost a lot.
按:受傷,原本stuff就不屬頂級的,開刀之後他的stuff又掉下來了。
