Two months ago, fourteen interns stepped into E&Y, anticipating that this
summer vacation will be more special than ever before. Whether aware of it or
not, we moved out of our comfortable zone to attain some work experience.
Similar to the time in university flying by, our innocence can never last.
People who make the decision are smart because they know that they should
open themselves to society before graduating from school. Nevertheless, their
immaturity may cause them to be overwhelmed by the reality of the society.
What's the best way to save ourselves from this tragedy? I believe it is to
be a summer intern.
After a weeklong trainning program, we were assigned to different
departments which include TCE, JBS, MFG, MNC and GFS. From then on,
our journey began formally. I belonged to TCE. At first, there was not too
much work assigned to me so I did nothing but browse through working paper
and this one(稅法). Reflecting back, I regret that I didn't fully cherish the
leisure moment. Why? Because when I worked outside the office, taking taxi to
client's location, there was a bunch of collection vouchers waiting for me!
Then my bright journey turned into a miserable one. From day to night, I just
checked those legal certificates, keeping asking questions and correcting the
errors I made, so that my eyes were fuzzy and my spirit was beat. One day, a
staff I's MSN title attracted my eyes, which said "so many heavy certificates
… I am almost blind …My hands are almost disabled" I wonder how we ever
made it through.
Another paper we try to file and another certificate we have to recognize. We
grow up gradually through this living nightmare. Somehow, I find that I can
handle 稅抽 by myself. What's more, due to working at accounting firm, my
skills of excel and word are skyrocketing. But I think the most crucial
thing that I learned from this two month-program is to come up with a
philosophy of how to mingle with other associates. Let me share my philosophy
with you. In workplace, we have to face a host of people. Their personalities
, personal traits and backgrounds are so diverse that it is beyond our control.
Even though you get along well with your co-workers, it doesn't mean that you
will work with those guys you like in the future, vice versa. In order to love
the life you live, which means your job because it has great chance that your
job will fill with your life in the foreseeable future, you should be mentally
flexible.
To be mentally flexible, here are my humble suggestions. First, open your
mind to cooperate with different kinds of people. You don't have to make
friends with every colleague, but you have to be able to be a team player
wherever you are. Second, don't judge a person merely by a saying or a
behavior. And if someone treats you bad or talks to you in a mean way, don't
lose your temper in public and further forgive him or her. Last but not
least, always find a way to make yourself happy in all circumstances. There
are too many unpredictable awful events awaiting you. When they do come,
maybe you will feel down or depressed. But don't let them takeover you. Face
the music, accept the truth, adjust to it and don't forget to be optimistic.
It is terrible to lose your energy and passion. Keep happy, I believe you can
overcome any challenge.
Today, summer interns graduate form the program. They will walk back to
campus, enjoying their last years as being students. Now, tell me, do you
sense different aspect of society through the program? Can you know what it
feels like to be an auditor? Are you eager to be more competent to make
yourself outstanding? Then keep working, I am sure that we will be top-notch
executives by ten years, competing with other international elites in the
world.
