The program is a ranking of the leading technology companies across the Asia Pacific region based on percentage revenue growth over a period of 3 years. This year, Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu has identified the Next 250 companies, following the launch of the program in 2002. The winning companies come from new and established businesses and from across Asia Pacific and industry sectors. Despite challenging conditions for companies in the industry in Hong Kong and across Asia Pacific, winning companies have proven tenacious, achieving average revenue growth of 412 percent over three years, compared with 385 percent in 2002. The top five Asia Pacific companies identified achieved a combined average growth rate of 8,441 percent over 3 years, up from 7,404 percent in 2002. Revenue has grown by 1,461 percent for the first to 50 winners, 269 percent for 51-100 winners and 111 percent for 101-250 winners. Mr Ian Thatcher, Asia Pacific’s Technology, Media and Telecommunications Lead Partner said: “Revenue growth rates of this magnitude are truly honourable and a testament to the ability of winning companies to be open-minded and entrepreneurial to take advantage of the market opportunities that prevail. “If we look at the top three winners, they are involved in some way in on-line gaming. The steady advance of broad-band penetration in the region laid the foundation for explosive growth in this market and these companies were quick enough to capitalise. Looking ahead, there will be further growth as the broad-band game concept evolves to allow competition between people located anywhere in the world, opening the door for a subscription based business model.” Software companies have again shown to have the largest share of the winners list, comprising 38%. Topping this year’s list is Taiwanese online game software developer Chinese Gamer. The company has achieved a spectacular revenue growth rate of 20,402 percent over the last three financial years as a result of the exponential growth in the Chinese online gaming market. In second place, with revenue growth of 10,342 percent is Shanda Networking Co. Ltd., a mainland China company dedicated to the development and operation of online games. Japanese company G-mode, a leading mobile game contents developer took third place with an average revenue growth of 5,624 percent. In fourth place is TCL Mobile Communications (TCL), a leading Chinese mobile phone manufacturer, with revenue growth of 2,964 percent. Japanese firm AnGes MG, Inc., an innovative life science company ranked fifth with 2,874 percent of revenue growth. "We salute the 2003 Asia Pacific winners for their ingenuity, strategic focus and flexibility that has helped them achieve remarkable levels of growth over the past three years,” said Igal Brightman, Global Leader of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Technology, Media and Telecommunications Industry Group. “Asia is a complex market comprising different scale economies, with differing levels of maturity and each having unique dynamics that drive respective technology industries. These differences extend not only between countries, but also within the technology industry sub-sectors in each country, requiring companies to regularly review and fine-tune their strategies. “We sincerely hope that through our Asia Pacific Technology Fast 500 Program, the 2003 winners, along with our previous winners, get the recognition they deserve in the business community for their outstanding achievements,” said Mr. Brightman. During the next several years, GDP growth in Asia Pacific countries is expected to outstrip that of the United States and Western Europe. Despite a business environment that poses challenges and surprises, Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu believes that Asia Pacific economies and their technology sectors can look forward to a positive future. “To succeed in today’s Asia Pacific technology markets, companies need to be not only customer-focus, but have the ability to adapt to changes and new technologies,” said Ian Thatcher. “It is also important to note that rapid growth is not limited to small businesses only – our ranking shows that over 18 percent (45) of winning companies have revenues in excess of US$100 million and 3 percent (8) have revenues in excess of US$1 billion,” commented Mr. Thatcher. Among this year’s Next 250 list, a total of 29 companies come from either mainland China or Hong Kong technology community. “Despite a challenging year, companies from Hong Kong and mainland China have shown high levels of resilience and innovativeness. We are especially impressed by the fact that four of the top ten winners this year are from mainland China and Hong Kong. “What is clear from our ranking is that companies with sound management, best practice and innovative thinking will be able to overcome challenges and break out of the pack,” said Alfred Tang, Technology, Media and Telecommunications (TMT) Practice Leader Hong Kong and China, Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu. As part of the Asia Pacific Technology Fast 500, Deloitte asked winning companies what the key issues and challenges facing their business are, as well as their forecast staffing level. Findings are as follows: CEO Survey Summary findings: Key Challenges Facing CEOs Nearly one third of the CEOs surveyed stated that growth management is their current biggest challenge (up from 14 percent in the prior year), specifically stating factors such as maintaining and sustaining growth and profitability, fund raising, cost reduction and identifying capable partners. Quality of management and staff continues to be a major challenge for 12 percent of companies, up from 9 percent in 2002 Only 4 percent regard the global IT downturn as their biggest challenge (down from 10 percent). This is positive for the future as the IT industry dusts itself off and braces for a more prosperous future Employee head-count 84 percent of CEOs surveyed are forecasting an increase in headcount in the coming year, with 42 percent of such companies intimating headcount increases of greater than 20 percent. Only 2 percent of companies forecast a decrease in employee numbers in 2004. The Asia Pacific Technology Fast 500 Program is administered by the Technology, Media & Telecommunications (TMT) industry practice of DTT, one of the world’s leading professional services organisations, which covers more than150 countries. The results will be a key guide to the companies to watch in the development and application of technology throughout Asia. They provide an objective industry-ranking standard that focuses exclusively on the Asian TMT companies. -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 210.68.108.81
