constant pressure to a temperature of 406K and then compressed isothermally
to a volume equal to its initial volume . The gas has a constant-pressure
heat capacity (assumed constant) of 30kJ/kmole K . For this two-step process,
provide as much information as possible regarding
(a) ΔU (b) ΔH (c) Q (d) W
(2) A mol of ideal gas undergoes a process such that V1=V2 , although the
volume does not remain constant during the process . indicate wheather the
statements are true or false and justify your answer :
(a) ΔU = ∫CvdT for reversible or irreversible process
(b) W = 0 only for a reversible process
(c) Q = ∫CvdT only for a reversible process
(3) What can you say for ΔU , Q , and W for the following changes ?
(a) A chemical reaction occurs irreversible in a well-insulated bomb . There
is an increase in the number of mols such that pressure increases considerably
(b) One kmole of an ideal gas (Cp = 30kJ/kmole K Cv = 21.7kJ/kmole K)
undergoes a process where its temperature changes from 290 to 340K . The
gas begins and ends with the same volume , although during the process the
volume may change .
(c) One kmol of the above gas expands irreversibly and adiabatically between
P = 10 bar , T = 400K and P = 1 bar , T = 200K
