Every 7 years there's a complete turnover of body cells,
if we keep getting this cellular makeovers, why do we age?
Unfortunately, we don't get cellular makeovers every 7 years.
We just get 7 years older.

Different types of cells turnover at different rates,
and some cells--brain cells--don't turn over at all.
Some kinds of cells do turn over quickly, though.
For example, epithelial cells.

These cells make up of linings of our body's tubes and cavities.
They're basiclly replenish as they're worn away.

Other types of cells turn over more slowly.
And ultimately, they simply stall out.

That's the basis of one theory of aging.
Cells lose their capacity to divide as the body gets older.
Research in how many times cells can divide has led scientists
to conclude that generally speaking human cells can live until
they are 120 years old.
