Structuring a Research Paper--II
B. BODY OF THE PAPER
The purpose of the body paragraphs is to present prevous research relevant
to your topic, to provide various perspectives on the issues involved, and
to provide support for one viewpoint over another/to establish the
importance of your research in the field.
Main Components:
a) A topic sentence for each paragraph when introducing a main point
b) Support evidence for each main point
Categorize the data you have compiled (i.e., all the evidence in favor of
something, all the evidence against something). Then,present it in clear,
well-organized paragraphs. To do this:
a) Provide one main supporting point in each paragraph or set of
paragraphs.
b) Provide evidence for each main point using statistics, detailed
examples, expert opinions (quotes/paraphrases/summaries), the
results of prior research, or the results of your own research.
