Updating an earlier item, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Patriots are expected to hire Josh McDaniels as an offensive assistant for the playoffs. McDaniels is then expected to take over as departing OC Bill O'Brien's replacement after the postseason. Adding a new coach during the postseason is essentially unprecedented, but could make sense for the Patriots since McDaniels is familiar with the offense and O'Brien's attention will be divided as he undertakes the massive task of saving Penn State. That being said, adding a new voice at this time of year is extremely risky, especially since O'Brien hasn't always seen eye-to-eye with HC Bill Belichick and Tom Brady this season. 2.
